Holy Smokes, I’ve Lived in NYC for 20 Years

August 28, 2009 — Get hitched.

August 1, 2014: Move the fam to Brooklyn. Alex’s first time seeing our apartment is move-in day. (I had gone to the displaying on my own, and flats had been renting so rapidly that we needed to make a right away determination.) Fortunately, he likes it.

Since then, we’ve bought a home, considered a third baby, muscled through haircuts, gotten locked out, thrown parties, lived with anxiety, celebrated birthdays, and done all sorts of random things on this loopy city we love a lot.

Final week, I went to the East Village to see my buddy Reagan. “Strolling across the metropolis is so humorous,” I instructed her. “I at all times see some man driving a skateboard together with his canine, or just a little woman taking part in a harmonica on the sidewalk.” Laughing and nodding, Reagan agreed: “In New York, everybody’s the principle character within the film.”
